The Chevrolet Camaro has been a beloved favorite among those who love the thrill behind the wheel since it was introduced back in 1966. Since then, it has grown into an easily recognized staple on roads everywhere.
In 1966, Chevrolet debuted the legendary Camaro to compete with the success of the Ford Mustang. It was available as a two-door coupe and convertible, and offered an impressive 6.5-liter V8 engine revving up the competition to a whole new level.
The second-generation Camaro was introduced in 1970 and lived on until 1981. It hit the market swinging with an all-new exterior, dropped the convertible version and by the third generation in 1982, Chevrolet shook things up again with another dramatic redesign. The third-generation Camaro was much lighter this time around and now featured modern fuel injection for the first time and a new hatchback body design.
In 1993, the fourth-generation Camaro was born with an updated platform, new V6 and V8 engine options while continuing to carry over legendary characteristics from its first introduction to stay true to its roots. The convertible made a comeback for the 1994 model year and a new six-speed transmission was introduced. This was also the generation that the beloved SS model rejoined the lineup for 1996.
The fifth generation Camaro featured 2010-2015 model years and went through some pretty impressive changes throughout. For 2014, the Camaro received a facelift with a new front exterior, rear fascia and fresh exterior color choices, including Red Hot, Bright Yellow and Red Rock Metallic, making the already desirable muscle car, even better.
In 2012, the high-performance Camaro ZL1 was born, and we can’t thank Chevrolet enough. And of course, 2010 was the year of the comeback for the Camaro after an eight year hiatus, and the legendary performance car came out swinging. Featuring an all-new heritage-inspired sports coupe and potent V6 and V8 engine options, the 2010 made its presence on the market known once again.
Currently in its sixth generation, the Camaro continues to wow loyal fans and draw in new enthusiasts thanks to its roaring power, iconic style and advanced technologies creating the ultimate escape on wheels.
What better way to start a new generation than to enter it with a complete redesign. The 2016 Camaro kicked off the sixth generation with a bang, featuring impressive new upgrades that had people running to the lots to get their hands on the wheel. Delivering a faster, more nimble performance with an all-new, lighter architecture and six all-new powertrain combinations with increased fuel efficiency, including the 2.0-liter turbo, 3.6-liter V6 and the LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine, the 2016 Camaro certainly made a lasting first impression. Each engine is available with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, and the new Driver Mode Selector and configurable instrument cluster elevate your driving experience to the next level.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of a performance icon, Chevrolet created the 50th Anniversary Edition to show off how far the Camaro has come. Plus, all 2017 models were designed with a “FIFTY” badge on the steering wheel and a new, flashy Arctic Blue Metallic exterior color was introduced.
For 2018, the Camaro now comes equipped with an impressive lineup of new standard features, including a rearview camera, LED daytime running lamps and OnStar® 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot providing much needed protection and entertainment for all your adventures. Offered in LS, LT (1LT & 2LT), SS (1SS & 2SS) and ZL1 trims, there a Camaro to match all your needs. Plus, the LS and LT are now offered with a standard 2.0-liter turbo or an available 3.6-liter V6 engine providing ample power no matter which powerhouse sits under the hood.
